Letter from Home
- Synopsis
- Radio drama. A young woman tries to get her boyfriend to live in the big city with her. He tries to get her to settle down in their small town. She lists the horrors of staying, which include becoming a member of ‘the Shakespeare club’. After they have gone their separate ways, the man, now a successful screenwriter, tells friends that he once thought he’d be greater than Shakespeare. A woman in the group says that if Shakespeare were alive, he would write screenplays too. Later, the writer’s wife mentions that despite his success, her husband feels like a failure for not reaching his youthful goals, that he wants to write Hamlet, but ends up acting like Ophelia. She does not explain this, but one might assume that in her view Ophelia also failed to reach her potential. [With acknowledgement to Michael P. Jensen for providing the description].
