Almeida. Jonathan Kent

Synopsis
Director Jonathan Kent is interviewed by Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins. Kent directed the Almeida productions of Richard II and Coriolanus starring Ralph Fiennes, which played to sold-out houses at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in the autumn of 2000. Other Kent productions seen in New York include The Iceman Cometh with Kevin Spacey, Medea with Diana Rigg, and Hamlet with Ralph Fiennes. Kent discusses the impact of London theatre companies such as the Almeida and the Donmar, as well as London’s West End on Broadway, the economics of transferring Almedia’s shows to Broadway, the ability of American vs. British actors to perform Shakespeare, and how he directs classical plays for contemporary audiences.
