Shakespeare and Opera
- Synopsis
- Radio programme in which Roger Gard, Lecturer in English at the University of London, argues that Shakespeare had more than a casual influence on nineteenth-century opera. Gard illustrates his arguments with excerpts from Mussorgsky, Berlioz and Verdi that deal with the theme of kingship, and offers some general reflections on the nature of verse and music drama.
