Interview: Leo Butler
- Synopsis
- Playwright Leo Butler talks to Aleks Sierz about his new work, One of These Days, a play commissioned by the RSC as part of the Complete Works Festival. Inspired by readings of The Tempest, the play is an epic and brutal journey into occupied Ireland during the eighteenth century. Knowing that her soldier lover is leaving for England, a local woman unleashes a sequence of events that will result in tragedy for both of their children. Butler shows what happens when a violent foreign power is in intimate and callous contact with the primitive heart of an ancient society.

- General
- Theatrevoice is a website for audio content about British theatre, and features journalists from across the UK as well as press and practitioners from across the theatre industry. It was set up in 2003 to see if theatre could be talked about in a new way: allowing critics to be more expansive than the usual space constraints of the print media allowed. In 2008, V&A Theatre Collections and Rose Bruford College, London agreed to support the site in partnership. (http://www.theatrevoice.com/about_us/, accessed 7/2010)
- History
- The play was directed by Ramon Gray at the Tricycle Theatre.
