Chase and Sanborn Hour, The [30/10/1938]
- Synopsis
- US radio variety show. This episode includes a one-act play ‘There’s Always Juliet’. A young couple fall in love shortly after meeting and agree that it is too soon for marriage. Dwight (Ameche) says that Romeo and Juliet fell in love just as swiftly. They pull a copy of the play from the shelf and read together the sonnet that the lovers share in I v. As he gets up to go Dwight says "This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath" (II ii). She (Carroll) asks him to stop saying it is too early for such words, but after he has left she quotes more from that scene. "I have no joy of this contract tonight. It’s too rash, too unadvised, too sudden". The playlet ends wistfully and the programme moves on to an aria by Massanet. [With acknowledgment to Michael P. Jensen for providing the description].
