Ways into Shakespeare’s Othello

Synopsis
Educational television. English teacher Sabrina Broadbent leads a masterclass on Shakespeare, using her expertise to engage a group of Year 10 students. Sabrina aims to create memorable learning by keeping it active and fun, and by engaging the students’ curiosity, with the group studying Othello for the first time. In this first masterclass, the students learn key quotations, try writing a line of blank verse in iambic pentameter, and consider how a handkerchief might be used as a dramatic device.

Through these activities, she aims to help students engage with the text, ready to engage with the plot and the whole text of Othello in the second masterclass.

This programme is the first in a two-part Shakespeare masterclass series, providing teachers with examples of how to make learning memorable.
