- Synopsis
- Series on Africa written and presented by Professor Ali A. Mazrui. Episode 4 traces the colonial economic legacy, the development of slavery, and European control of Africa’s natural resources, with special attention to the roles played by Belgium and Great Britain. Includes an extract (4 mins) in which a young African reads a passage from Shakespeare. The voice-over says instruction in Shakespeare is controversial in a country recently liberated from British colonialism. A male teacher leads a lesson about racism alluding to The Merchant of Venice.
