Bryan Forbes on Directing Macbeth

Synopsis
Independent Local Radio programme. Actor and director Bryan Forbes is interviewed on the forthcoming publication of his book on the history of British acting. Forbes describes directing actor Peter O’Toole in a production of Macbeth. He also reacts to Timothy West (director of the Old Vic) disowning the play, and negative press reviews. Forbes defends the production and says the play did ‘mature’ from the performance on press night. He feels the Trevor Nunn production of Macbeth with Judi Dench and Ian McKellen was merely people sitting around on chairs talking, like a read-through, and not his kind of theatre. He promises not to invite Arthur Mullard to play Othello. Female interviewer not identified.
