Artist, The
- Synopsis
- Feature film. A romance taking place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932 focusing on a declining male film star (Dujardin) and a rising actress (Bejo), as silent cinema declines and is replaced by the talkies. Much of the film itself is silent; it is shot in black-and-white. In one brief scene an actress tries out a sound scene (in silence) from Romeo and Juliet. The scene has a significance beyond the comedy as early sound Shakespeare films were being produced in this period some of which could be regarded as the antithesis of cinema.
