Shakespeare’s Restless World: Communion and Conscience

Synopsis
Second of a twenty-part radio series in which the director of the British Museum, Neil MacGregor, presents an object-based history of the time of Shakespeare to explore how Elizabethan and Jacobean audiences made sense of their rapidly changing environment.
In this episode a silver communion cup from the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon is used to reflect on the state of religion in Elizabethan England in the wake of the English Reformation.
