William Holds the Stage

Synopsis
Children’s radio drama based on the novels of Richmal Crompton. Tomboy Dorinda has moved into the village, and William seems to approve of this rat-catching, frog-stuffing girl. The impending Wellbecker Shield for Shakespearean Acting competition seems the perfect opportunity to impress her, but when Dalrymple gets the part of Hamlet, William is spurred into action. Includes several comic scenes of William trying to understand the plot, questioning authorship, and learning his lines, and later in the school rehearsal room delivering his idiosyncratic version of the ‘To Be, or not to be’ soliloquy. Havoc reigns on the night of the performance. Read by Martin Jarvis.
