Synopsis
Radio broadcast. Four-part series in which Huw Edwards discovers how some operatic masterpieces reflect the political and social circumstances of their age. In the final edition Edwards talks about Verdi’s Otello finding that the composer’s setting of Shakespeare has its roots in the Italian unification movement and in the struggle for musical supremacy in a Wagner-dominated world.
