Film Stars Don’t die in Liverpool
- Synopsis
- Based on the memoir of the actor Peter Turner (played by Jamie Bell), Annette Bening plays the Hollywood movie star Gloria Grahame with whom Turner had a relationship during the latter period of her life.
Grahame is dying of cancer when she tells Turner of her dreams of playing Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet". He promptly hires a theatre and they both take to the stage in the title roles.
There is no audience to witness one of Grahame’s last great performances as she professes her love for Romeo in the part of Juliet. Peter mostly reads the part of Romeo whilst Grahame’s Juliet is word-perfect. She’s able to recite the part with great artistry.
The stellar cast includes Vanessa Redgrave who has to be prompted several times by Frances Barber as she struggles to deliver the words of John of Gaunt in William Shakespeare’s Richard II. - Language
