- Video of the second lecture by Professor Sir Jonathan Bate FBA on how Shakespeare’s imagination was inspired by classical antiquity. Bate discusses how Shakespeare’s conception of the hero was shaped by Virgil’s The Aeneid but also examines the Bard’s scepticism about the heroic ideal as seen in Hamlet and Troilus and Cressida.
