WOMEN’S WORK IN BRITISH FILM AND TELEVISION
BECTU Oral Histories
In this section you can read the transcripts of oral history interviews with women from the British film and television industries which were recorded by the BECTU History Project. This project has been running for over twenty years and is convened by a small group of union members and volunteers who select interviewees and undertake interviews. To date over six hundred interviews have been conducted. From this cohort of six hundred the Women’s Work research project selected a number of interviews for transcription. We prioritised women in below the line roles such as make-up and laboratory processing, and those whose work experiences would complement the project interviews, allowing a more richly-textured picture of women’s work to emerge. Transcripts of other BECTU interviews (men and women) are also available from the British Film Institute, the BUFVC News on Screen resource and the British Cinema History Project at the University of East Anglia. See links below. Copyright for these interviews remains with the BECTU History Project and researchers must consult with them before reproducing material.
