Overview
Description
This Playlist aims to to unsettle the nexus between law, race and the differing schools of what is often called ‘decolonisation’. Items cover varied contexts: from racialised legacies in the USA; to South Africa's history of 'lawful' racialised classifications of humanity; to colonial contexts such as India, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Finally, the UK where racial, colonial and legal histories produce stories such as the death of Steven Lawrence and the ensuing institutional failure in the investigation, as well as the horrors visited on the Windrush generation in the past and present.
