- Summary
- US task force heads towards the Gilbert Islands. On board one of the ships US Marines attend religious service. Invasion starts. Landing craft approach the beach and naval ships lay barrage to cover the marines’ landing. They establish a beachhead and under fire get into trenches. Supplies are unloaded at a rough harbour and more men come ashore for the advance. Captured Japanese are rounded up and marched off to be shipped out. The Marines are firmly entrenched on the island.
