Summary
On the 4th June the Fifth Army entered Rome and by the 5th Rome was entirely in our hands. American troops are cheered by Italian crowds as they pass the Colosseum and General Mark Clark rides through streets in a jeep. Angry crowds outside building which is supposed to house Fascists, and collaborators receive rough treatment from the crowds. Pope delivers address from balcony to crowds gathered in St Peter’s Square.
