- Summary
- More troop landings take place. Villagers greet American troops as they pass through villages, one is signposted St Mere Eglise then into Bayeux where a French correspondent gives news of the war. Army and RAF personnel work together to build a landing strip. Gliders of the 6th Airborne Division left over the countryside just as they touched down. US heavy guns in action. Shots from aircraft while straffing German targets. German captured bring in their wounded and are loaded onto landing craft. Flashback on captured German film shows Rommel inspecting Hitler’s Atlantic Wall, emphasising the swing from the offensive to the defensive. Royal engineers busy dismantling gun emplacement which was in part of the wall. On board HMS Kelvin is the Prime Minister, General Smuts and Field Marshal Alanbrooke who will visit the Normandy beaches. They are greeted by Montgomery.
