Summary
Lightnings and Thunderbolts of the US 9th Air Force straffing marshalling yards and trains, in a bid to smash escape routes behind Rundstedt’s front. Near Colmar in Alsace-Lorraine, American and French troops fight their way into Wittenheim. Casualties are heavy and the wounded are taken to field dressing stations in dug-outs, many of the helpers being French Red Cross nurses. British troops in Heinsberg, Germany, two miles from the Siegfried Line. Heavy damage is seen.
