- President Benes and 100,000 Czech soldiers attend ceremony at the former village of Lidice to commemorate the razing of it by the Germans two years ago. The men were killed and the women taken prisoners. Survivors, mostly women, are seen at the ceremony. [60 ft] German troops leave Holland starting the long trek back to Germany. [113 ft] Australian troops prepare for the invasion of Tarakan Island. Australian C-in-C General Blaney has a last word with his men before they embark. The land forces are backed by squadrons of the RAAF who go in to drop leaflets to warn the Japanese of what is coming to them, and then go in to bomb enemy targets. Australian troopships and their naval escort head for the Tarakan shore beating off all enemy opposition and sending heavy naval bombardment onto the island. [149 ft] Demonstration of "Bridge carrying tanks". First type seen is the "Scissors" and can support loads up to nearly 40 tons and can be laid under fire without the crew leaving the tank. The next is the "Ark" mounted on a Churchill tank. [179 ft] From American comes the Kellet helicopter, with intermeshing rotor blades revolving in opposite directions it can go up or down, hang motionless in the air and fly backwards, sideways and forwards. [84 ft] Fifteen American film chiefs arrive in Britain on a European tour. They will come to London as guests of the Government to see how the City survived the raids. Among those seen are Jack Warner and Daryl Zanuck (all in military uniform). [70 ft]
