- Summary
- To a nation that knows the true meaning of sorrow comes the worst tragedy it has ever known - an entire generation wiped out. Almost 200 children, sons and daughters of miners who themselves face death every day of their working life, horrifyingly killed in a stunning and unbelievable accident. The valleys of the Welsh coal mines echo to the sound of mourning centred in Aberfan, where, like so many other places in Wales, the coal tip overshadows even Nature’s mountains. To a people who continually fight for their livelihood in an industry which oil and the atom is forcing out, comes the added hardship of facing a future which has no place for many of their loved ones. The people of Aberfan have paid a monumental price so that others may live without fear
