Summary
The Red Army, which just a few short weeks before had gone home, was back. The Hammer and Sickle had returned to pound and cut the Czechs hopes of a Liberal self-governing way of Communist life. At Cierna and Bratislava so very, very recently the Free World had rejoiced at the Soviet leaders enlightened and permissive attitudes towards the Dubcek regime. The rejoicing was over. The world was stunned. The promises had been empty ones. Anger and bitterness towards the Russian occupation was reflected all over the world.
