Summary
A "Rhine" type barge - a 1,000 tonner and the first of its type ever seen on the River - is the spearhead of a fight to win back valuable lighterage for the Port of London. The "Meridian" as she is known, is 220 feet long and can carry four times as much as a conventional Thames barge.
