Summary
It was intended to be a service of Christian Unity, with the Archbishop of Canterbury and Cardinal Heenan present. But also there was the Rev Ian Paisley, leading a group of Ulster Protestant extremists. The following day, seventy-nine Irish civil rights campaigners from Londonderry marched to Downing Street to hand in a petition complaining about police action during a recent civil rights march.
