- Summary
- Deserted. That was Fleet Street on May Day. For in Fleet Street, as in many other parts of the country, May Day was strike day. London Docks had the same forlorn look. Machines without men. The strike aimed against the Government White Paper on Union Reform, "In Place of Strife", took its toll. The strikers massed at Tower Hill while, all over the country, industry was paralysed. Their strike was Britain’s loss.
