Summary
The end of a three-week battle against the sea as the last huge water-tight caisson was slotted into place to close the 550-yard sea-arm, "Vokerak", near Willemsted. With this ingenious do-it-yourself dam-cum-bridge the Dutch had won a new round in their constant battle against the encroaching sea.
