- Pathe synopsis: Hammer-swinging Ivy Wiggans is a strong claimant for the title of Britain’s toughest housewife. After seeing her two children off to school, Ivy joins her husband in his boat yard at Kew Bridge on the Thames and helps him to break up old boats. Swinging a sledgehammer all day can be back-breaking work, but Mrs Wiggans finds that the job has advantages - she leads a healthy outdoor life, and of course she gets a free supply of firewood!
