- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: Pathe Pictorial’s Magic Carpet transports you to an island of perpetual springtime. An island of music and sunshine, where schools are in the open air and the main lesson is learning to embroider dance dresses. We stray in the cool shade of the banana leaves fringing the sea, which grow to tree-height in a single season. We cut a great branch of these bananas - Canary Island bananas - and take them off with us through the bustle of Las Palmas airport. Now we get the full flavour of Canary Island contrasts. Jet airliners, and oxen pulling primitive wooden ploughs. The savage coastline. The civilised beaches. We mingle with the fisher-folk, and the people who live in caves in the volcanic rocks of this romantic holiday island. We linger over vistas of sheer loveliness before we are drawn by the compelling rhythm of young islanders who have abandoned themselves to the dance.
