- Pathe synopsis: ... the 1896 Derby horses we see running in one of the cinema’s earliest newsreels. Pathe Pictorial shows how the British Film Institute’s National Film Archive collects and preserves famous old films. We see excerpts from Forbes Robertson’s "Hamlet", filmed in 1913 and a Pathe fashion film, hand coloured frame-by-frame fifty-two years ago. From King Edward VII’s funeral we go back to the earliest days of moving pictures to see Queen Victoria at one of her garden parties surrounded by smart ladies whose hats and hairdo’s contrast strangely...
