- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: Pic’s magic carpet has come to a city caught in the varying fashions of various occupiers. The Romans, Austrians and later Napoleon’s invading Frenchmen all left their mark in this, the twelfth largest city in Italy. St Anthony’s proud columns face a symbol of the Venetian rule - the Grand Canal - while the pride of Emperor Franz Joseph Maximillian of Austria - the Castle Miramare - is now the stronghold of a watchful nun. Even the English and Americans administered Trieste for nine years after the war, but sunshine has warmed the coldest conflict and now foreigners come as tourists.
