MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Shipyard Wins Government Praise. DESCRIPTION: The American Maritime Commission has awarded its first flag of merit to a Pacific Northwest Yard for speedy ship-building. The "Liberty" ships continue to be launched rapidly. SHOTLIST: The Maritime Commission awards its first flag of merit to America’s speediest ship-building Company. This Pacific NW Coast Yard boasts some unusual workers, which include an ex. wrestler and a former Russian ballet master. This yard helped to build 31 ships in less than a year. Now they are aiming for an output of two ships a week. Four Destroyers Launched - CARD 42350 At an Eastern US Port, four Destroyers are launched in hour. The first of the four ships is christened by Mrs Frank J Fletcher. The second, "The Radford" is sponsored by Mrs Francis Mathes. The third is christened by Mrs William Roy. The fourth is christened "The Marvine". Submarine Launched, USA - CARD 42351 This is the first submarine built for the Navy at Great Lakes. Governor Heil of Wisconsin launches the "Peto" the submarine being christened by Mrs Loquist.
