Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Bombing Axis European Fortress. DESCRIPTION: Recently "Ventura" bombers left Southern England for a raid on Marlaix, about thirty-five miles from Brest, in Brittany. Whilst in the Mediterranean theatre Palermo, Sicily, has been one of the Allies’ favourite targets. SHOTLIST: Cut story - CU Ventura & GS of line of Venturas. CU WAAF driving tractor towing Ventura. Crew climb aboard. GS of Ventura taking off (travelling shot). Aerial shot of formation & also shot of sea. CU engine - angle shot. Aerial shots of Marlaix airfield, shows bombs falling & hits registering near runway. Few shots of pilot inside plane. Shot of another Ventura. with cockpit of Ventura in fore, from which shot was taken. Aerial shot of Palermo, Sicily, shots of harbour, Flying Fortresses in flight with tail shot away. Few shots of grounded planes, shows damage. Aerial shots of Marsala, Sicily, shows ships in harbour. CU bomb before release, & after, falling & hits. Bombs falling near to harbour & in sea causing large whirlpools. Aerial pan of harbour, shows sunken ships (this last scene is a fake - the sunken ships are of Bizerta Harbour).
