Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Messina Occupied. DESCRIPTION: Out aircraft continued to strafe Messina and the Straits as the Eighth Army continued to move up. The Americans were actually the first into Messina and found many civilians in the now famous "tunnel" shelter. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of Messina also toe of Italy, travelling aerial shot of Messina (Preceding is RAFFU). GS of Monty, leaving HQ. MS of him standing by his car, distributing tins of cigarettes to soldiers. Pan of destroyed bridge, & GS of another built along side, 5.5 Gun being towed across same. GS of American entering Messina. Stars & Stripes being hoisted at the Town Hall. Hoisting the Ensign after hauling down the Italian torn Admirals flag. Various shots of Messina ruins etc. Also of Ferry terminus, & shipping sunk in harbour. GS of German signing indicating evacuating beach, shot looking out to sea. On look-out post nearest to Italian mainland (San Giovanni), various shots looking across the straits.
