Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Diversion in Cairo. DESCRIPTION: Members of the Eighth Army, without suitcases to label, have taken to cover themselves with the names of places they have seen. A Cycling Club for servicemen has been formed by Staff-Sergeant Walker and is proving very popular with men on leave in Cairo. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GS British troops seated in tent bare backed. GS same with names of various places imprinted on their backs, ‘Tripoli’ etc. GS of girls with names of places embroidered on her blouse, GS girl walks along road into camera. CU blouse. GS girl with heart embroidered on sleeve. GS & CU of girls feet with ‘8th’ marked on her shoes. GS girl’s handbag with places marked on same. CU back of girls blouse with silhouette of Churchill on it. Cyclist Club - GS cyclist oiling bike, changing from boots to riding shoes. Group of cyclists out of gate and camera. Into camera along avenue of palm trees. Along seafront, yacht off beach. Along road, pyramids background. Fat British ‘Tommy’ trying to mount cycle, keeps falling off, eventually he carries same. Shot of him walking along road into camera, these are used as cut-ins. Meanwhile the club have reached their destination, sitting on summit of hill, looking down at city in valley, also pyramids, Fat ‘Tommy’ staggers up hill, they rush to help him. CU of him, wringing out handkerchief, and wiping brow. GS of him seated on camel and Arab wheeling bicycle.
