Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Progress of the "Fifth. DESCRIPTION: Naples, now being in the hands of the Allies, is a very busy port for the movement of supplies. Pictures taken by the RAF show the smashed railway yards at Benevento. Lately heavy rain has been holding up the Allied advance, mud becoming their main obstacle. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. KS of Naples Docks. US Engineers laying railway tracks to docks, bulldozer clearing debris & wreckage away. Various shots of Docks, "Ducks" approach shore & landing. CU wheels as it comes ashore. Cargo being unloaded by crane from ship, onto quayside. Various shots of Naples Docks with quaysides loaded with shells, bombs, ammunition etc. Patent picker-up of bombs, placing same on lorry. GS of quayside completely covered with bombs. Aerial shots of demolished bridge, & travelling shot of wrecked buildings, damage being colossal. Railway sidings wrecked, (this is town of Benevento). US motorised troops through town, several Jeeps, also infantry, Italian civilians straggle back to town. German casualties, & POW brought back to rear, also being attended to. Deep, clinging mud & swollen streams in vicinity of Caserto, truck crosses stream, water nearly covers wheels, Jeeps & lorries, make their way through mud, (just like 1917 picture). US Troops ride ponies, being passed by motorised unit. Infantry in & out of camera cross farm, shots of valley shows our artillery pounding same, shots of shells exploding, cut-ins of artillery being fired, finishing on shot of valley.
