- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Azores (RAFFU Copyright). DESCRIPTION: The island in the Atlantic have proved very useful to the Allies who have recently leased airfields there. The Portugese controlled islands have welcomed the various military personnel to the islands. SHOTLIST: Cut story - GS of convoy off coast, destroyer escort. Shots of convoy including manning of AA guns on deck. Group shot of Rear Admiral Holt, Air Vice Marshal Bromet, Wing Commander Tuke. Aerial of the island of Terzeira, showing chief port, Angra. LS of plane take off from carrier (too far away to recognise type). Naval launch pulls away from ship. GS into camera of Brigadier Barbosa and British officer. Several shots of greeting by Barbosa and Senor da Filva. Shots of cargo unloaded from ships, lorries come ashore, cranes unload, cases being pushed along belts, various activity. Loading material onto lorries, assisted by Portuguese labourers. RAF regiment wash by water wheel, also another asks Portuguese women to do his personal washing. Aerial of island, panning shot. GS of British preparing aerodrome, digging trenches with pneumatic drills. CU Union Jack also RAF Ensign and pan of aerodrome. Planes of various types land on aerodrome, Walrus, Aerocobra, Spitfire, Fortress. Panning shot of Flying Fortress taking off. Aerial shot of aerodrome shows aircraft scattered about same. Fortress in flight over camera. Following the washing there are shots of camps, tents and RAF Regiment eating.
