- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Fall of Cherbourg. DESCRIPTION: The Battle of France has already moved many miles inland. The Allied Air Forces have played a large part in the operation flying 31,000 sorties between the first and sixth of June. As the Americans closed in on the port of Cherbourg they captured several of the flying bomb sites. Allied sea power has also played it’s part as warships bombarded Cherbourg. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Aerial shot of Boston plane flying over France. Aerial pan of masses of craters in anti-invasion defences, various shots. In Valogne, various shots of ruins. Americans clear debris etc., using bulldozers. Also demolishing various buildings with dynamite. Aerial shot of take-off installations for "flying bombs", taken from all angles. Various shots of warships, "Glasgow" - cruiser: "Nevada" - US Battleships: "Tuscaloosa" & "Quincey" US Heavy Cruisers. Part of ship on fire. LS smoke screen laid on sea. "Glasgow" straddled with bombs. AFU - GV of beaches. Various shots of gun emplacements, all part of the Atlantic Wall, also many of them damaged, general pan of same, British troops inspect same. American infantry march single file along country road. Various street fighting, sniping. CU sniping, etc. GV of German prisoners out of gun emplacement, searched. CU wounded American. Girls lead prisoners along road, girls also prisoners, passing camera. Street fighting running along street, German prisoners with white flags, out of pillboxes, hands on heads. General von Schlieben, & Admiral Hennecke enter building. Interior group shot of the above two with Major General Collins. CU Schlieben. Schlieben & Hennecke in jeep which drives off.
