MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Battle for Cleve. DESCRIPTION: Pictures of Field-Marshal Montgomery’s advance to Cleve have now reached London. Germany was entering the Reichswald Forest area and the enemy pushed back in a determined action. The capture of Cleve marked the end of phase one of Monty’s push. SHOTLIST: Various shots of tanks, infantry, equipment passing through village of Kranenberg. British and Canadian troops march single file, each side of road, towards frontier and over into Germany, in the Reichswald forest area. Churchill tanks pass through forest, patrols go through same, firing in foxhole. German POWs surrender in groups and individually. Monty and Crerar. CU & SCU seen together. Canadian troops out of camera towards Goch. More prisoners, along road - muddy. Canadians on ‘Alligators’ (amphibious tanks) advance over flooded areas. Troops and Churchills, equipment pass through Cleve. LS of Cleve and various shots of troops etc., through Cleve.
