MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Burning Up the Japs. DESCRIPTION: Pictures of the taking of Balikpapan in Borneo show the pounding taken by the Japanese. Oil wells going up in smoke took away one of the Japan’s biggest sources. The Australians swiftly secured their foothold and the battle moved inland - to the hills and the jungle. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Off coast of Borneo, Allied rocket ships, firing, etc. various shots of streams of missiles, tracers, rockets, etc. all firing towards Borneo. Huge black columns of smoke from burning oil wells. General MacArthur aboard ship watches bombardment, ship fires broadside. SCU MacArthur. Various shots of dozens of landing craft making for the beaches, troops landing, shells ashore, running along beaches, under fire. Fighting further inland, Aussies use flame-throwers, various shots of trenches, dug-outs, fox-holes being burned out. Fighting in the hills, jungle, Aussies with Sherman tanks slowly advance. Flame-thrower points same at pillbox, Jap emerges, his clothing well alight, rolls himself in puddle on ground, gets up still burning; in dazed condition. Shots of black smoke from oil wells. Aussies follow Sherman tank along jungle track. Various shots of fighting. MacArthur walks track to scene of fighting.
