Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Inside Germany. DESCRIPTION: AMMO FACTORY BLOW-UP - The power plant at Kaufbeuren is blown up by the Allies as part of the programme to put German munitions out of production. RECONSTRUCTION OF TRANSPORT - Hard work is being done to get German transport going again. Locomotives and rolling stock are being repaired and reconditioned. COAL - Many of the German mines were severely blitzed but recovery has begun. Output is being rapidly increased and German miners are given extra rations to aid stamina. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Elevated shot of ruins. At Kaufbeuren, Germany, American officer pushes down detonator which explodes ammunition factory. GV explosion. Yanks walk over ruins of factory. Interior of factory constructing locomotives, various shots locos under construction and rolling stock, loco wheel rolled into camera. Steam engine passes into camera outside factory. GV ruins. At Zollverein mine (largest in Europe), various shots of wrecked plants, etc. CU British Controller-General of Fuel and Power - Brigadier Marley - speaks about the increase in coal output. German miners leave pit, various shots inside canteen several eating, one says in English "we get more food, if we get more coal". GVs open cast mine, shows up-cutting dredger picking up coal and loading onto trucks, trucks pushed along and turned over at certain position. MS Dredger (hopper) at work. LS of coal mine with smoke rising from many chimney stacks.
