MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: South Africa’s Gift to Britain. DESCRIPTION: FIELD-MARSHAL SMUTS IS SPOKESMAN FOR SOUTH AFRICA’S GENEROSITY - Field Marshal Smuts visited Mr Attlee at No 10 to hand over a cheque from South Africa, a generous gift to Britain. SHOTLIST: KS CU Door of No 10 Downing Street. Interior - Smuts and Attlee seated at table. CU Mrs Ellis Brown (wife of Mayor of Durban) and Mr Heaton Nicholls (South African High Commissioner). Smuts addresses Attlee, referring to the gift in form of a cheque (sound track bad). SCU & CU cheque. Smuts and Attlee stand up and shake hands. Attlee replies, thanking Smuts for gift.
