Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mary Churchill Married. DESCRIPTION: The youngest daughter of Winston Churchill married Captain Christopher Soames at St Margaret’s, Westminster. There were huge crowds outside the church making it difficult for the participants to come and go. SHOTLIST: KS LS Big Ben and House of Commons. Distinguished guests arrive at church, including French officers, Mr and Mrs Attlee alight from car. Mrs Churchill alights from car. At Hyde Park Corner. Churchill’s London residence, Mr Churchill with Mary Churchill holding his arm at the door, posing for cameramen. Crowds round house. They enter car and drive off out of camera. Alighting at St Margaret’s, again posing for cameras, Mary’s veil gets caught up. Cut-ins of crowds rushing to get glimpse of of bride, people lying on ground looking under awnings as bride passes. Mary Churchill and Captain Christopher Soames exit church, walk towards camera. Soames introduces Mary to his Sergeant Major. Bride and groom walk through crowds to car (x3). CU Churchill escorting bridegroom’s mother (?) (x3). GV Anthony Eden and Mr Winant amongst guests. TS crowd. MS crowd jostle cameramen. MS Churchill helped through crowd by police then into care.
