- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Indians Celebrate: Pakistan and Indian Independence. DESCRIPTION: INAUGURATING PAKISTAN - Lord and Lady Mountbatten went to Karachi for the beginning of the Dominion of Pakistan. They watched as Mr Jinnah was sworn in as the new Governor General. ENTHUSIASM AT NEW DELHI - Excitement was running high on the streets of New Delhi as power transferred to the new Dominion of India. Lord Mountbatten was sworn in as Governor General and later he and Lady Mountbatten joined in the celebrations. SHOTLIST: KARACHI - Crowds outside Constituent Assembly. Interior elevated shot of meeting. CU Liaquat Ali Khan. Ali Khan waves. Pakistan national flag. CU Jogendra-Nath Mandal - untouchable. CU Begum Shah Nawaz. Car arrives with Lord Mountbatten. Peddlers selling balloons, several shots of Kharries passing through streets. Large crowds outside Constituent Assembly. Interior shots of Dr Rajendra Prasad addressing meeting. CU Pandit Nehru before mike. Huge crowds outside Government House, climbing on walls and every vantage point. SCU Sardar Patel (Minister of Law) alighting from car. SCU Sardar Baldev Singh (Minister of Defence). MS of crowds on roof, including Pandit Nehru appealing (silent) to crowds. Masses of crowds everywhere. DELHI - GV Bengal Lancers escorting Lord and Lady Mountbatten through large crowds. Several shots of same. Mountbatten entering building - Lord Mountbatten before mile (silent). Exterior shots of the Mountbatten walking amid the crowds of people, watching children entertained by roundabouts - bear and monkey performing etc. Indian military march onto parade ground - cut-ins of mounted police trying to keep control. LS three Spitfires fly in front of camera very low. Indian flag amid huge crowds - massed crowds to finish.
