Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Tour of the Midlands. DESCRIPTION: Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visit Macclesfield, Buxton, Derby, Nottingham and Mansfield. SHOTLIST: KS. Arrival of Royal car. 14 year old Shirley Henkinson presents bouquet to Princess Elizabeth at Macclesfield. Royal procession. Princess Elizabeth & Duke walk round silk mills inspecting. Princess Elizabeth talks with (silent) Ruth Collier. Whip pan, en route from Macclesfield, Royal car stopped & the "Queen" (Miss Buxton) Joan Mellor presented loyal respects etc. "Queen" returns to her throne. This was at Buxton. At Derby, large crowds waves frantically. Stop at the Council House, Princess Elizabeth opens door with new key. Royal couple on balcony of City (Council) House. Crown Derby China on exhibit - inspected. At the Royal Crown Derby China Works, Princess Elizabeth & Duke inspect working. At Nottingham, Duke inspects Territorial Army. Huge crowds, police hold up children as car passes. Inspect lace exhibition. Procession back to Council House. School children perform before Council House in French & Flemish dances. Back views of Royal couple watching from balcony. Royal car through cheering crowds. At Mansfield (Portland Training College for the Disabled) Gail Ashton presents bouquet. Duke inspects Boys Brigade. Princess Elizabeth accepts piece of silver & drinking cup for Prince Charles from Winifred, Duchess of Portland, after she had laid foundation stone for college.
