- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: RAF Across Africa (Look at Kongwa). DESCRIPTION: Hastings of RAF Transport Command were sent to Takoradi in the Gold Coast to help No 82 Squadron pack up and move away on their seasonal migration to Kenya. The Squadron is a Photographic Survey Unit and are only able to do their work in good weather. Some 300 miles from Nairobi is Kongwa, one of the centres of the Ground-nut Scheme, where they are sowing sunflower seeds over a large acreage. SHOTLIST: KS. Hastings aircraft taxies across aerodrome. GV Tripoli. GV HQ (RAF) at Castel Benito. Hastings being re-fuelled. Air to air, Hastings in flight. At Kano, native blows long horned trumpet warning of approaching aircraft. Troops disembark from planes, several shots. GV Takoradi airfield. 82nd Squadron start packing & loading aircraft. Packing their trophies, etc. Kitbags put aboard. Aerial shot of Hastings in air loaded at Takoradi. Aerial of Lancasters in air. Landing at Nairobi. Unloading equipment, cases etc. (107 seconds). Aerial of Kongwa area, also shows name "Kongwa" on ground. GV area, shows railway track across partially flooded area, now recovered, lorry across railway track. Tractors in park, also tractors laying sunflower seeds in fields. GV ground nut area, & weeding by hand. SCU seed in containers of tractors. Laying sunflower seeds. (41 seconds). GOOD SCENES:- GV Tripoli also street scenes. Fiesta in the streets. Kongwa - GVs of the groundnut area. Bulldozers, tractors etc in park. People sowing seeds & weeding, etc. Pan Tripoli front & esplanade. Aerial of Hastings in flight. Lowering RAF flag & raising Civil Aviation flag. RAF flag at hoist. GV Castel Benito RAF HQ surrounded by palms. RAF Survey Across Africa - CARD 53113. Six "Hastings" transport planes land at Tripoli. Planes being re-fueled at Castel Benito. Kano - native warns locals of approaching planes. At Takoradi, Lancasters & Dakotas load up with supplies & take off. Aerials over Africa, Sierra Leone & Gold Coast. Planes at Nairobi, unload equipment. Aerial of flooded Kongwa area, ground shots railway working. GV & shots of workshops etc. at groundnut centre. Sowing sunflower seeds by mechanisation.
