MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Festival Eve Preliminaries. DESCRIPTION: The River Thames is being featured in the Festival of Britain, and the River Festival Services get off to a good start ahead of Opening Day, when the Lord Mayor proceeds by launch from London Bridge to Charing Cross. The Exhibition itself looks as near ready as makes no difference. The next thing is to mint a special coin for the Festival, a five bob piece. At the Fun-Fair, one of the attractions will be Flying Cars a German invention acquired by British showmen, you loop the loop inside a giant cylinderThe City and Sub was first run at Epsom in honour of the Prince Consorts Exhibition of 1851, and so it’s the Centenary of the City and Suburban Handicap. This was won by top-weight Burnt Brown from the favourite Eclat. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. MS Fountains playing at Festival site. On the River Thames, shots of water procession making its way along the river. Shots of Lord Mayor’s launch, with Swan-Uppers & Doggett’s Coat & Badge rowing along-side. GV procession with Tower Bridge in background. GV procession with St Paul’s in background. GV Festival Site with two new stone figures, named the Islanders. and Festival Hall. Interior - Shots of festival 5/-d pieces rolling off after minting, placing in cases. SCU & CU of the finished coin. Various shots - all angles of Flying Cars going round cylindrical shaped objects, passenger in cars speed round, turning completely upside down. People standing looking on laughing. CU Racing Card City & Suburban. Crowd shots including grandstand. MS of start, panning shots during the race, rounding Tattenham Corner. Elevated wide-angle of horses racing up the straight, Burnt Brown & Val d’Assa collide, not seriously. Burnt Brown goes on & wins. Cut-ins of crowds. City & Suburban - Epsom. Good scenes - All Martin Gray’s material, which consists mainly of good elevated crowd shots on the course - in sunshine. Foreground - crowded grandstand, with course in background. Very useful for the Derby, or an Epsom meeting.
