- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Durham Pit Disaster Scenes. DESCRIPTION: Easington Colliery has suffered the worst mining disaster in County Durham for over forty years; comrades and relatives of the entombed men have been told that hope of rescuing them alive must be abandoned. Lord Hyndley, Chairman of the National Coal Board, and Mr Shinwell were on the spot. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV mine area, street with crowds in foreground. Various shots of the relatives standing around at pithead, in the streets, etc. Miner draws in chalk a diagram on wall. Mr Shinwell walks towards group of miners & chats (silent). Lord Hyndley chats (silent) to group of miners & relatives. Rescue team depart, walk out of camera.
