Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Everest Conquered. DESCRIPTION: The spotlight of world-wide interest is focussed on Katmandu, the capital of Nepal, and here preparations were made well in advance to receive the heroes of the expedition - Hillary & Tensing, who actually reached the peak of Everest. The first members of the expedition to arrive were Gregory and Bourdillon of the first assault party and the leader of the expedition, Colonel (soon to be Sir John) Hunt. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various street scenes of the above, very picturesque, various Eastern type buildings. Sherpa women carrying loads on backs. Various effigies & monuments in streets. Sherpa women selling what looks like a cigarette. GV royal palace, very modern building. Royal guards on parade in grounds. King Tribhuvan walks past camera. Aerial shots of the Himalayas as seen from aircraft passing over same. Building stands, musicians practice. CU Gregory, Bourdillon & Colonel Hunt. Wife of Colonel Hunt alights from plane, kisses husband, poses for photographs with two Sherpas. Stills of Everest shows the camps en route to the top of Mount Everest. GV shows clouds & range of mountains. GV valley. Crowds gather in streets, Nepalese Army leaders wait. CU British Ambassador with Mrs Hunt. Procession enters town, crowds cheer & floral carriage passes carrying Tensing & Hillary. Crowds.
