Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Sportsman of the Year. DESCRIPTION: A large number of sporting personalities were present when the Sportsman of the Year Trophy presented by Sporting Record was awarded to Gordon Pirie. A superb trophy was also awarded to Britain’s first horse woman, Pat Smythe. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of sporting personalities including Tommy Lawton, the Bedser twins, Sydney Wooderson and Roger Bannister. Patsy Hendren, Yvonne Sugden and Pat Smythe. Gordon Pirie arrives. Pirie presented with cup by Lord Aberdare (Aberdâr). Pirie makes speech. Miss Pat Smythe presented with horse jumping trophy. Makes speech.
